ECSDN Statement: ‘Knowledge only’ version of EYE Pathway
ECSDN Co-Chair, Philippa Thompson SFHEA, sent a statement to NurseryWorld earlier today in response to the announcement that in order to enable learner progression, there will be a ‘knowledge only’ version of the EYE pathway awarded by NCFE CACHE.
The statement (below) might be helpful for members on open days to inform Level 3 students who have been awarded their Level 3 with the ‘knowledge only’ pathway.
Re: EYE Statement
Yesterday it was announced that, in order to enable learner progression, there will be a ‘knowledge only’ version of the EYE pathway awarded by NCFE CACHE. Whilst the awarding bodies may have their own suggestions for progression, we would like to reassure students interested in Early Childhood Studies degrees that they may be able to gain this ‘licence to practice’ during their degree alongside the ECS Graduate Practitioner Competencies.
To help students with ‘knowledge only’ qualifications we thought it would be helpful to know what to look for when considering which provider to choose to complete further study with:
- Does the provider (FE/HE) offer an opportunity to complete EYE with assessed performance/placement as part of their Early Childhood Studies (ECS) degree?
- How will this assessed performance/placement take place and what does it look like?
- Does the provider also offer the ECS Graduate Practitioner Competencies (GPC’s)so that you can progress further in your knowledge and understanding of practice in the field?
- Are they a member of the Early Childhood Studies Degree Network (ECSDN) as this allows them to offer the GPC’s?
