Save the Children report

Save the Children report presents new research with the sector, including early years teachers, providers, academics, and trainers, exploring the challenges which early years teachers are facing.

It All Starts Here: Tackling the crisis in the early years workforce.

Based upon these findings, we are calling on the government to take immediate action to help grow and support the graduate workforce. Our recommendations include:

  1. Increase awareness of the employer incentive, which providers can claim if they support a member of staff to train to be an EYT
  2. Improve the induction and career support which EYTs receive in order to improve their retention and to help them have the most impact on children’s development
  3. Target investment to support EYTs in disadvantaged areas through trialling salary supplement schemes and early career payments.
